Watch an outdoor movie in the park


Bring a picnic blanket and watch six free outdoor movies at festivals and Summer Bashes in parks around Tacoma.

Grab your picnic blanket and your kids, friends or dog – Tacoma’s outdoor movie series starts this Friday! Screened outdoors in parks around Tacoma, the films are free and family-friendly, held in conjunction with festivals or Summer Bash events and in locations with spray fields or playgrounds to boot.

All movies start at dusk. Here is the list :

Outdoor movie MOSAIC
7 p.m. Saturday July 23: “Selena” (PG)
Wright Park, 501 S.I St., Tacoma

“Selena” is the 1997 film telling the story of Selena Quintanilla Pérez, queen of Tejano music, with Jennifer Lopez. Part of MOSAIC, the Tacoma Arts and Culture Festival, which runs from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. July 23-24, with performances, booths, and food trucks.

Summer party at the STAR Center
5 p.m. Friday, August 5: “Luca” (PG)
STAR Center, 3873 S.66e Street, Tacoma

“Luca” is a 2021 Disney animated film set on the Italian Riviera about a young boy sea monster who can assume human form. As part of the Summer Bash event, with inflatable slide, games, entertainment, crafts, food truck and more.

Summer party at Norpoint
2 p.m. Saturday, August 13: “Spirit Untamed” (PG)
Center at Norpoint, 4818 Nassau Ave. NE, Tacoma

“Spirit Untamed” is a 2021 animated film about a headstrong girl who discovers a kindred spirit in a wild horse. As part of the Summer Bash event, with car show (2-5 p.m.), pickleball tournament (2-6:30 p.m.), family games and activities (5:30-8 p.m.), “Tacoma’s Got Talent” contest (6-8 p.m.) and final performance (8:30-9pm), food trucks, free popcorn and more.

Summer Party in Stewart Heights
6:00 p.m. Friday, August 19: “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” (PG)
Stewart Heights Park, 5717 Reginald Gutierrez Ln., Tacoma

“Sonic the Hedgehog 2” is an animated action comedy based on the famous video game. Part of the Summer Bash event, with vendors, games, food trucks and more.

“Metro Parks has been showing movies outdoors for years, and we’re excited to be able to bring them back to our community this summer,” said park board chair Andrea Smith. “It’s a wonderful, free way to safely reunite with family and friends and enjoy our beautiful parks.

The seats are on the lawn. A limited number of portable FM radios will be available to enhance the listening experience or bring your own. Movies are still audible without them, but listening through headphones helps drown out ambient noise.

Outdoor movies are presented by Coordinated Care in partnership with The Grand Cinema and Metro Parks Tacoma.
