Based on Netflix’s Top 10 TV Shows for Tuesday, July 5

For fans of: stranger things | Is it good?: It’s so much fun

Now that the kids are older, Season 4 of Netflix’s ’80s-style sci-fi megahit embraces all-out horror in a way it never has before (the biggest influence on this season is freddie). It also gets oversized with episode runtimes, leading to bloat. It’s not the show’s best season, but it’s still one of the most entertaining shows on television. (Yesterday’s ranking: 1)

For fans of: Young people with superpowers, Gerard Way | Is it good?: It’s a good time

Season 2 of The Umbrella Academy left on a major cliffhanger when the gang traveled back in time from the 60s to an alternate version of 2019 in which Hargreeves (Colm Feore) had formed seven different superpowered babies to become Sparrow Academy. In Season 3, the series picks up where it left off, and the Umbrellas will have to deal with the apocalyptic event potentially caused by their timeline jump. (Yesterday’s ranking: 2)

For fans of: Mysteries unknown to the world | Is it good?: This might blow your mind

This program hosted by William Shatner tries to explain the inexplicable phenomena of the world. Season 3, which has just been released on Netflix, delves into the depths of the sea, King Arthur and the missing link. (Yesterday’s ranking: 3)

For fans of: national treasurebut in alaska | Is it good?: It is mixed bag

Netflix’s latest Discovery Channel-style docuseries follows a team of treasure hunters searching for gold on Alaska’s Adak Island, a remote community in the Aleutian Islands. The research is a little underwhelming – even with the constant threat of landmines – but if you’re interested in small Alaskan towns fighting to survive, there’s a chunk of it here. (Yesterday’s ranking: 4)

For fans of: The family sitcoms of yesteryear | Is it good?: If you like family sitcoms from the past, you’ll like this

The Upshaws brings up all the older family sitcoms you’ve loved – think Family matters, Roseane, Married with children – except it’s, you know, modern. The show, which just released its second season, is about a working-class family living in Indiana, and it’s complete with a laugh track and a sister-in-law character (Wanda Sykes) who’s constantly on. the nerves of the father (Mike Epps) . It will probably take you back to the 90s. (Yesterday’s ranking: 5)

For fans of: Don’t die, man versus squirrel | Is it good?: Yeah, it’s great for survival lovers

The History Channel’s reality competition, in which contestants are dropped into the desert and must survive with just their wits and a few tools, is a favorite among the tough guys. Season 8 has just arrived on Netflix. (Yesterday’s ranking: n/a)

seven. snowflake mountain

For fans of: Survivorbut stupid | Is it good?: What do you think?

In this reality show, a group of young people with, as Netflix’s official description says, “zero life skills” get stranded on a mountain and are left to fend for themselves. OKAY! (Yesterday’s ranking: 6)

For fans of: Sports, high school, the city of Los Angeles | Is it good?:It’s a solid teen drama that adults can enjoy too

The acclaimed CW high school sports drama, inspired by the life of former NFL player Spencer Paysinger, follows Spencer James (Daniel Ezra), an aspiring soccer star who balances ambition and daily teenage drama as he leaves his neighborhood to become the MVP of a new school in Beverly Hills. Its fourth season has just been released on Netflix. (Yesterday’s ranking: 8)

For fans of: This particular brand of CW show | Is it good?: People who like it really to like

This vampire diary spin-off is set in a private school for the gifted, focusing on the life of Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell). Season 4 has just landed on Netflix. (Yesterday’s ranking: 7)

For fans of: Network dramas made for streaming | Is it good?: This is the tv dad peak

Netflix doesn’t do a lot of network-style dramas (yet, but expect a lot more), so this legal drama from prolific writer-producer David E. Kelley stands out. Long before he became the big little lies guys, Kelley dominated the lawyer space on TV with LA Law, The practice, Ally McBealand Boston Legal, among others. It’s his return to the genre. Lincoln’s lawyer is based on a series of bestselling novels by Michael Connelly, who also created Det. Harry Bosch, and follows Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), a Los Angeles defense attorney who doesn’t like defending the guilty, but likes to use his Lincoln Navigator as his office. He was previously played by Matthew McConaughey in the beloved 2011 film of the same name. The series was recently renewed for season 2. (Yesterday’s ranking: 9)
