Plans are underway to open Ireland’s largest film and TV facility

Planning permission is set to be secured for the construction of Ireland’s largest film and television studio campus on a 25-acre site in Lough Sheever Corporate Park in Mullingar, Co Westmeath.

The Hammerlake Studios construction proposal is being brought forward by a consortium led by industry experts who previously held executive positions at Universal Pictures, Disney and Troy Studios.

When completed, the studios will comprise 11 sound stages with a combined area of 100,000 square feet and a combined total area of 250,000 square feet. Support facilities will include offices, a restaurant, hair and makeup rooms, a costume department, an art department, multiple talent suites, green rooms, visual effects and editing rooms.

The first phase of the building permit will be submitted at the end of April 2022. If approved, the studio development of this first phase is expected to take 12 months.

Located close to Dublin and 50 minutes from Dublin Airport, the site was selected because of the area’s impressive accommodation, catering and business services.

It is believed that the project will generate 300 construction jobs and when completed the studio could employ up to 350 film crew members.

The TV and film facility will join existing facilities in Ireland, Ardmore Studios, Troy Studios and Ashford Studios. The new studio is expected to help boost Mullingar’s local economy and help Ireland meet the growing demands of productions hosted in the country.
