A film festival is a carnival for moviegoers as many old and classic films are screened. As part of the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), more than 300 films will be screened in 31 cinemas from September 17 to 30.

Besides Beijing, moviegoers can also visit Tianjin and Zhangjiakou in Hebei Province to watch the movies. This year marks the first time that BJIFF has chosen cinemas to show films outside of Beijing. The official program for the 11th BJIFF will run for nine days from September 21-29.

Different sections based on various themes have been set up including “Restored Classics”, “Women’s Voice” and “Animation”.

This year, BJIFF has set up three special sections. The “BJIFF SPECIAL: Party Centennial Celebration” will feature 15 films on the history of the Chinese Communist Party over the past century.

Due to the passage of time, many older films no longer meet technical reading standards. With the help of modern repair technology, worn out images from old films can now be restored. In the “Restored Classics” section, moviegoers have the chance to see works such as “Mulholland Drive”, “The Godfather Part III” and “An Autumn Tale”. In the “Tribute” section, classic films like “Le Salaire de la Feur” and “Les diaboliques” will honor the cinema.
