The upcoming dark fantasy horror comedy revolves around Dracula’s titular henchman as he chooses to leave his life of servitude to the iconic bloodsucker after meeting and falling in love with fiery traffic cop Rebecca Quincy. Nicholas Hoult directs the cast of Renfield as the eponymous protagonist alongside Nicolas Cage in Dracula, Awkwafina in Rebecca, Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Bess Rous and James Moss.
Development on Renfield was first announced in late 2019 when Rocketman director Dexter Fletcher has signed on to helm the project with rick and morty alum Ryan Ridley writing the script on a plot of The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, who produces through his Skybound Entertainment banner. After a few years of dormancy, the film would finally pick up some steam in early 2021 when The Lego Batman MovieChris McKay entered talks to direct as Fletcher began work on Paramount’s reboot of The Saint. Cast on Renfield began soon after with Hoult the first to sign followed by Cage and now audiences have some exciting news for the film.
Just over two months after kick-off, the official Universal images The Twitter account revealed that the Dracula movie directed by Nicolas Cage Renfield completed production. The announcement was made with a photo of stars Nicholas Hoult and Awkwafina and director Chris McKay holding the film’s logo and announcing that filming wrapped exactly one year before its release. Since making his directorial debut with batman lego Film, McKay has proven to be a consistent director in his runtime outside of the animated genre. The 48-year-old filmmaker followed the Will Arnett-directed film with Chris Pratt’s tomorrow’s war, a big-budget sci-fi actor he actually wrapped filming on in three months. But Renfield was likely shot for a fraction of the Prime Video movie, McKay’s ability to complete it within two months of launch proves an impressive feat, especially after production was hit by burglars in the week that started. followed its launch.
