Newen Studios gets additional support from Anton to invest more in movies


Newen Studios, the Paris-based production and distribution group, has strengthened its strategic partnership with European producer and financier Anton with the aim of becoming a major player in the feature film landscape.

Under the new deal, Anton is granting Newen Studios an overall budget of €50 million ($56.6 million) to co-invest in distribution rights for audiovisual and film projects. Anton first partnered with Newen Studios in 2019 to co-invest in Newen’s distribution rights for the group’s productions, as well as third-party programs across all genres, fiction, documentary, animation.

“The extension of the agreement with Anton demonstrates the successful momentum of Newen Studios,” said Romain Bessi (photo), CEO of Newen Studios, who previously held a long position at Canal Plus Group.

“Many projects have been co-financed with Anton over the past two years, and with this new partnership, our scope of action will now include cinema, a genre that the group supports even more since the integration of TF1 Studio”, added Bessi. .

Sébastien Raybaud, Founder and CEO of Anton, said Newen Studios is “leading the way in global content.” The executive, who is based in London, said ‘continuing our partnership with them affirms our faith in their vision, creativity and business prowess’.

Newen Studios’ roster of ambitious film projects includes Kevin Macdonald’s documentary about high fashion designer John Galliano.

Newen Studios has previously delivered “The Opera”, “Crossroads” series, as well as “Legacy” and “Lost Luggage” currently in production. The Company’s third-party acquisitions include “DNA”, “The Promise” and “Christian”.
