The weekend saw a new contender emerge on the Netflix charts rising to the top of the charts above Kevin Hart’s borefest me time and this addition surprisingly is called Love at the Villa.
According to FlixPatrol’s daily ranking, September 4 Love at the Villa was the most-watched film on the platform, making Netflix’s fourth original production in the top 5 and ultimately dethroning me time from its first place.
Love at the Villa is a new romantic comedy from the streamer that features The Umbrella Academy star Tom Hooper alongside Kat Graham. The film was written and directed by Mark Steven Johnson.
In this romantic comedy, Graham’s character’s trip to Italy is turned upside down when her villa is double-booked, forcing her to spend her time alongside a stranger.
Although it may be on top of Netflix right now, Love at the Villa is being absolutely trashed by critics and audiences alike on Rotten Tomatoes, leading to a sour-tasting Tomatometer score of 55% and a darker Audience rating of 37%.
Love at the Villa arrives on Thursday, September 1, so it remains to be seen how its performance held up over the week compared to the other massive movies on the streaming service. Even if the film can’t reach number one for the week, it still earns a feather in its cap by snagging the weekend’s top spot.
If you’re looking to try your hand at this rom-com adventure, it’s available to stream on Netflix right now.
