Massage Therapist Hopes to Bring Well-Being to NM Film Industry

It has been a journey of nearly a decade for Josh White.

On December 14, 2012, White was invited to form a group of massage therapists for a corporate function.

The rest – they say – is history.

“From that point on, it kind of exploded,” he says. “Before I knew it, I was building a network of massage therapists to be part of the team.”

White is the owner of Por Vida Therapeutics, which provides massage therapists to help improve the health and well-being of the community by connecting clients with therapists who meet the required criteria.

Corporate events have long been a means of networking, even though White thinks bigger.

“I tried to get involved in the New Mexico film community,” he says. “We have therapists who can treat a client in an office space and we can also be mobile and go on set and meet production needs.”

White started as a massage therapist in private practice in 2005, but wanted something more.

Today, the bulk of Por Vida Therapeutics’ work is chair massage.

“What employers realize is it’s important for mental and physical health,” he says of massage therapy. “The health and well-being of the work environment has come a long way. “

The biggest hurdle for White and Por Vida Therapeutics is finding massage therapists.

“Before the pandemic, the pool was large and easy to remove,” he says. “It’s much smaller. We still work on average between 180 and 200 hours per month. In December, we shoot for over 200 hours of work.

White says as notoriety continues to grow for Por Vida Therapeutics, he is focused on expanding the film industry.

“It’s about networking and finding the right person to open that door for us,” he says. “The film industry is one of the growing industries and is mobile. We want to be able to fill that niche. All of our massage therapists are residents of New Mexico. We live in the community and want to keep it healthy.

As White continues to develop projects within his company, here are a few things you didn’t know about him:

1 “My daughter is my world. She is the best.”

2 “I work as a barback at the Library Bar every other weekend.”

3 “I love dogs and cats, but currently I have a cat.”

4 “I’m probably at the gym if I’m not working out or with my daughter.”

5 “I was named the city’s best winner in 2013.”
