Brookings register | Library to show the movie ‘Emma’

BROOKINGS – The Brookings Public Library will be offering the free monthly film screening at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 4 in the Library’s Cooper Room. This month’s movie is “Emma” (2020, PG, 2 hours). Everyone is welcome and popcorn is provided.
Jane Austen’s beloved comedy about finding her equal and earning her happy ending is reimagined. Beautiful, intelligent and wealthy, Emma Woodhouse is a restless queen bee with no rival in her sleepy little town. In this sparkling satire of social class and the pain of growing up, Emma must venture through misguided matches and romantic missteps to find the love that has always been there. (Focus Features synopsis)
Emma (Anya Taylor-Joy) takes single Harriet Smith (Mia Goth) under her wing to help her find a suitable husband. Emma thinks of herself as an expert on romance, which leads to disagreements with her sister’s brother-in-law, Mr. Knightley (Johnny Flynn). As Emma tries to match Harriet with various young gentlemen, romantic situations abound, resulting in a startling reveal.
Future films and times will be announced in the library newsletter.
