Pick Him: TBRB #4 Jaime Munguia vs. Gonzalo Coria (Saturday, DAZN, 7:00 p.m. EST)
In a weekend where it almost feels like there isn’t much boxing, we still have the final chapter in the saga of when middleweight Jaime Munguia (40-0, 32 KOs) will make more than walking on water.
Former Jr. middleweight titlist Munguia, 26, seemed willing, but his pairing has yet to show it for him. 25-year-old Gonzalo Coria (21-5, 8 KOs) is definitely not a step up. Coria has only been arrested once. It could multiply here.
Additional shows to watch
Friday — Lopez vs. Gutierrez (Thompson Boxing YouTube, 10:50 p.m. EST)
Fans looking for Friday night action will get welterweight action on this card from Ontario, California. 26-year-old Luis Lopez (12-1-1, 4 KOs) will be battling 27-year-old Adrian Gutierrez (12-0-1, 6 KOs). Neither has ever been arrested.
Saturday – Davies vs. Baluta (ESPN+, 2:00 p.m. EST)
The Jr. Featherweights headline this UK card. 26-year-old Liam Davies (12-0, 5 KOs) goes for his first victory in twelve rounds. Ionut Baluta, 28 (15-3, 3 KOs), is coming off a win and managed a majority decision loss to Michael Conlan the previous fight. It’s a solid step forward for Davies if he wants to be a contender. The undercard will feature Anthony Yarde in light heavyweight action as he prepares for a shot against lineal light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev
