I Love America offers a more mature romantic comedy

For those looking for a more mature romantic comedy, the French film i love america offers a tried-and-true formula full of rom-com cliches that are sure to make the movie a guilty pleasure. With Sophie Marceau in the role of a Parisian named Lisa, i love america is surprisingly satisfying with its no-frills approach to the genre as it creates a fish-out-of-water love story. Disillusioned with life in France, Lisa moves to Los Angeles and reunites with her best friend Luka while reflecting on her life as she nears 50.

While Lisa decides to fall back on casual adventures as she acclimates to life in the City of Angels, she finds herself stumbling upon true love as she comes to terms with her changed living environment. Despite its rather stereotypical premise, i love america is largely supported by Marceau’s winning performance as Lisa, balancing poise and vulnerability in equal measure. For those looking for a light meditation on life and love, i love america definitely delivers.
