MEXICO CITY — Police are investigating in Mexico after thieves stole cargo containers filled with partially refined ore along with televisions.

The president of the Mexican Federation of Employers confirmed that thieves stole 20 cargo containers from the Pacific Coast seaport of Manzanillo, The Associated Press reported. The containers were filled with partially refined gold and silver ore, as well as televisions.
The burglary was described by local media as “the robbery of the century”, and according to Barronsthe thieves neutralized port security teams before using cranes and trucks to take the containers.
“It was a very serious organized criminal operation,” said Horacio Duarte, the head of Mexican customs. PA.
The thieves took eight to ten hours to commit the crime and focused on stealing precious metals and items such as air conditioners, Barrons reported.
While cargo theft is a problem in Mexico, typical crimes involve the hijacking of lone trucks on highways, according to the PA.
The president of the Mexican Federation of Employers, José Medina Mora, told the PA that large-scale theft was a sign of increasing crime.
“There is a growing lack of security, and this is a sign of what is happening in the country and this demands that the authorities act.”
